Travel Authorization (Advance Parole)

Travel Authorization, commonly referred to as Advance Parole, allows eligible noncitizens to travel outside the United States and return lawfully while an immigration application or qualifying status is pending. Departing the U.S. without approved travel authorization may result in abandonment of the underlying application.

The application is filed using Form I-131 with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Travel authorization is often requested in connection with Adjustment of Status, asylum, or certain humanitarian filings. Approval permits temporary international travel for the authorized period, subject to inspection upon reentry.

You may qualify for travel authorization if you:

• Have a pending eligible immigration application
• Are required to remain in the U.S. during processing
• Meet category-specific eligibility requirements
